Teaching pic

Since 2003 I have taught on the postgraduate Creative Writing Programme at the University of Glasgow. For more information on our MLitt, Distance Learning, MFA and DFA strands please consult the website.

My residency with the British Council at the International Writing Program in 2011 was hugely enjoyable and also gave me the chance to do some teaching at the University of Iowa.

In 2011-12 I was Reader in Residence with East Ayrshire Libraries, a temporary post supported by Creative Scotland’s Creative Futures programme. This was a brilliant opportunity to extend my work with the Imprint Festival and to organise events for readers in the local area. The residency also took me to local schools, community groups and HMP Kilmarnock.

I enjoy tutoring on residential courses run by the Arvon Foundation and Moniack Mhor, Scotland’s Creative Writing Centre, which overlooks the beautiful mountains of Strathfarrar and Wyvis. The Live Literature scheme run by Scottish Book Trust has allowed me to visit many festivals, community groups, readers’ days, schools and prisons to give readings and workshops, and I have worked with two new writers as part of their mentoring scheme.
